JYJ's Junsu's "Tarantallegra" MV sparks controversy

Junsu's new transformation for "Tarantallegra"
When Junsu's "Tarantallegra" music video teaser was released, most people were shocked in the former DBSK member's image transformation from widely adored to strictly fierce. I admit, his aggressive "strut" in the teaser was enough to make me chant, "Oh no no no..." and made me think twice about watching the actual music video. As "gay" as some Netizens scream it to be, I'm actually thinking it's a positive new barrier broken for the K-Pop industry. I mean, stylists are already lathering their male stars with make-up, heavy eye-liner, skinny jeans and "metro" style clothing, what can't Junsu appear vixen-like in his new video? More importantly, he's not declaring that he's gay or even bisexual- it's just another style concept in a music video. To be specific, the creative directors are playing with sexuality.

The most memorable artists form lasting impressions by creating the strongest reactions. They exist to bring new ideas to the media. Here, Junsu's company is simply giving us a new concept, surprising us with another side of Junsu. Since he dares to try something new, his masculinity is more intact than ever. The song itself is fast-paced, wrapped in risk and seduction. My only issue is the simple repetitiveness of the chorus "Tarantallegra." Otherwise, the rap, Junsu's voice, and the hooks are quite addictive. The music video suits the dramatic sound of the track well, and the choreography is powerful and intricate. In the very least, the live performance will be interesting, if not impressive.
